I have a 89 toyota corolla sr5 5speed and was wondering if i can do anything to make my car a little faster than it is other than swapping the engine btw it is a carb
otherwise what you guys think of an engine i should put in my car if swapped
There are a few engines that you could go for. The GT-S versions came out with a 4A-GE 16v engine, which would be a drastic improvement over the 4A-F you currently have in your SR5. Otherwise you could go for a 4A-FE, 7A-FE or 4A-GE 20v.

The 4A-GE 16v came standard in few models, but the best model to get one out of in your case would be a Corolla GT-S. They look identical to your SR5 except they just have higher specs. The engine bay is the same as yours, just with a different engine.
If you can buy a GT-S instead then that will be a lot easier, but the swap is definitely possible if you throw enough money at it.
Have a read of this thread regarding the swap: SR5 vs GTS
There's a fair bit of info on Google too, and a lot of success stories out there. Definitely a worthwhile swap if you can afford it.

Remember if you swap a 4A-GE in you're going from Carbed to Fuel Injected so it wont just be like a direct swap or anything, you'll have a little more work to do wiring wise. I'm not sure all what exactly but guessing you'll need the ECU and all the wires connecting to it etc.
I have the 4AGE in my GTS, it's a great engine, revs high, you can beat the shit out of it all day long and it just keeps on going like brand new. haha. Gotta love the 4A engines.
I topped out my 4AF several times and not a single engine problem. Carb, trans, alt... all that crap has been replaced many times, but the motor itself.... That thing is strong. 4A! I have a 4AGE that I haven't gotten around to yet, going for a turbo set up. It'll be a while, since I like to take time and make sure everything is what I want with no mistakes.
3SGE/TE is a heavy bitch. Powers' good, but it's a heavy bitch. More fabrication will need to be done, but a it's heavy bitch.
