Angry No start.

So my car earlier this week just sputters for a sec and dies.
I have fuel into the carb, have spark and the simple stuff all fuses are good.
The weird thing is... cylinder one the spark plug wire down in the head and the spark plug was all covered in oil.

It will turn over till my battery dies, won't try to start or anything.
Any ideas?

Ya, I replaced those grommet things a little while ago and tried to start it and still no start.
just turns over, still no sputtering.
This thing is confusing and I gotta get that thing out of the garage by tomorrow night.

I still didnt understand how the oil on the plug would make it not run.
I mean its still got 3 cylinders if that one stops firing.... it should run right?

Also! if I try starting and hold WOT and then stop turning it over it won't turn over anymore. it just acts like the starter doesn't exist for a little while then will work again..
would that be the battery?

Check distributor cap/rotor /wires/ ignition coil/ timing belt. Remove distributor cap and have someone try cranking while you watch rotor to make sure it moves. If not the timing belt is broken.

ah smack the starter or play with the starter wire. same crap happened to me a month after i got my 92 DX. if there is power(dash lights are on and what not) it isnt the battery. probably the starter if it has power but does not crank or even click like it would with a dead battery. but yea try what 90 GP said also if you havnt already, good luck

Thanks guys, i actually just replaced my starter 3 weeks after I got my car and i've had it for like 5. I'm unhappy with it..a problem every 3 or 4 days has been common.
I got the battery checked. I have a dead cell and so I replaced it and its good now.
Bastard still won't start though.

ok i went out last night and here is what I got:
The plugs look good, the battery and starter and all of that are good.
I have fuel going into the carb, my filter is TERRIBLE! you cannot see a bit of day light through it so i'm replacing that s.o.b. today.
But still somewhere from the process of the air/fuel mix and igniting we have a problem.
my dad says i have spark. I'm gonna check that later though.

As soon as I get this figured out i start my build on the thing

Even if the lights work, there might not be enough juice in the battery to operate the starter.

Where is the coil? I have an electronic ignition.. is it under the distributor or on the firewall? I have this thing that kinda looks like one on the passenger side of the fire wall.

AE92

hey
i've had this same problem.
i checked the cambelt but the cams were still moving so it wasn't that checked the spark it got no spark so straight a way i knew it was the distributor u will have to change the hole dizzy. well i had to change mine because the dizzy cap was fine and the rotor was touching all the contacts so it was something internal. but buy a new distributor but check everything that has been said by me and n e one else that has commented on something to do.
Good luck

It depends on how much juice is running out of the battery. In my case I had barely enough to power my accessories.
