Hey guys! This is my first post. I have come to assume that my prizm is pretty much the same as the toyotas. What I have is a completely stock prizm that i want to turn into a track car, ultimately using it on the Bullrun TV series in a couple of years.
I want to know everything I need to do. I will be doing all the work myself at UCF. Thanks in advance.
I say you should focus on your steering and suspension, especially if you're going on the tracks.
As for the motor, they're very reliable anyways. Very reliable. But, if you want, you have several choices of motors that you can swap (versions of 4AF/4AFE, versions 4AGE/4AGZE 16V or the 4AGE 20V. Others may involve more work but do-able).
I still have a 4AF although I have a 4AGE 20V that will need a lot of work. But I'm planning on getting the suspension stuff done and taking it to the Autocross a few times for fun. Maybe I will do the track runs when everything is done, just to see what it will do.
Is there any way I could convert it to RWD?
Also, I'm thinking of an engine swap, the current one is terrible in my opinion. I'm thinking of going the turbo route to get more power as well. What engine would you suggest for boost?
I'm pretty new here myself too. Now down to business.
Unless you can crap out money, I'd strongly suggest you stay away from doing anything too extreme, and even if you do crap out money and live in a house of gold it would be a pain in the arse to get everything to line up and work like it's supposed to.
If you really really want a RWD just go for an older Corolla and work from there, it'll save you a boatload of time and money.
If you're willing to spend a good amount of your time and money go for it, it's something we've never seen before, but if you want to save yourself from the hassle and the butt-raping your wallet is gonna do to you, just boost it or get and older model Corolla.

Alright, so let's scrap the RWD idea. What kinda boost can the stock engine take? What all can I do motor wise to get the power up?

I'm unsure about how much boost they can take, a couple of members here have turbocharged their 4afe's, you could either try to search on this forum or in the archives for some info on the builds or you could ask them directly. The safest thing to do if you want to go turbo is to just swap out you engine with a 4agze and turbo it instead.
The cheapest route is to build a regular 16v 4age, you'll only have a fraction of the power, but your wallet wont take a huge hit.
Anyways GL with whatever you decide to do, and BTW use the search function, this place is a gold mine for info on these cars.

So this will just be my build thread. I think im gonna build the stock engine, and throw a turbo on there. This won't be updated for quite a while. I may post up some pics later.
Again, any suggestions are welcome!
