just got this rolla gts check it out !!

hey there how is it going, im new to this portion of TN im usually on the truck side with my 88 toyota pickup. but i decided to get a daily driver car and ended up picking up a 90 corolla gts with 141,000 miles. sweet little ride, all stock including sweet ass cassette player stereo and the high output 14w speakers, cold ac, the interior is near perfect except for a few small issues

- center console hinge is broke
- small rip in passenger seat but was fixed with glue
- dash has a few cracks but is covered by dash mat
- dash clock doesnt work
- dome light in middle doesnt work
- wood piece in trunk is bent from having the spare tire on top of it and not under

thats nothing tho easy fixes

exterior paint is good except for oxidization on hood and roof and a few parking lot dings
sunroof doesnt work tho.. the motor is working but wont move, and driver side running light is out.
does anyone know whats wrong with the sunroof. i used the search but everything i could find was on a carbon fiber sunroof lol. and for the 90 corolla 4afe it puts out 130 hp right?

here is some pics

Nice score!! If you have a gts you have the 4age. The 4af&e came in the sr-5. If the snroof leaked it's possible someone sealed it and that's why it won't open but that's just a guess.

i thot so too i picked it up for 2gs, its a GTS 4 wheel disc brake so my car has the 4age so i still have the 112hp while the sr5 has the 4afe @130hp?

i read on here they had a problem with water getting in the seal since its upside down or somethin to that nature. inside it has like wood blocks holding the back up and from what i saw it didnt look sealed but that was just a quick glance.

i took it to emmisions here in az this afternoon and it failed... but it was close the hydrocarbons were at 1.60 and the standard is 1.00 also NOX was 2.56 and the standard is 2.50 so close dammit, im thinkin it might be an old cat, any other suggestions?

lol It's the other way around, if it's a GT-S it has the 130hp 4age, if it's an SR5 then it has the 112hp 4afe.

Pretty nice car either way, I'm rollin' in a sedan but I sure as hell wouldn't mind a coupe, especially a GTS

I don't know much about emissions, but anyways good luck on getting that sorted out. Keep us updated!

Ha I was gonna say that would be gay if the gts has a smaller motor lol since its. the higher end. Ya Idk ill have to check into it but I love this car

So for the sunroof I checked and it doesn't seem sealed. I pushed up slighty on it and the front of it lifted up and the back doesn't budge so hmm any idea on that

Sunroof I'd pull off the cardboard cover from inside the car and unbolt the 8 bolts holding it in place. Then push it up from inside and remove it from the top. Inspect the guides and sliders, clean and lube as required. Make sure the sliders move when the open close switch is activated.

Could just be sticky sliders and guides, could also be the cable setup from the motor has broke or come off. If that's the case it's a bit more involved to fix.

oh i got the dome light to work to by the way just needed a bulb!! i noticed the passenger side door light switch is a little touchy, you have to jiggle it around to get it to work

that one is just right hell cant beat it...

he also has a dimmer switch too which mine acts funny when moving it, it flickers like off when i move it but works fine and is dim or bright when i stop so idk if this is what they are suppose to do or the switch is acting funny

as for struts for this car is there a good brand? i looked at tokico since my bro has these for his supra and i like them, but it seems in their catalog they have it for all models of corolla except mine lol. the local parts store has monroe struts for 50 a piece. I looked on ebay and they have gabriel struts for 200 all four corners shipped, is that a good brand?

KYB GR2's, I bought em' and haven't had a regret since, and I'm sure as hell I'm not the only one that's fallen in love with them. The only problem that I keep hearing a lot about them is that if you plan on lowering your car, you shouldn't lower it more than an inch or so because if you just so happen to bottom out on lowered suspension, you can say bye bye to your struts. I read that you can choose between serviceable and sealed GR2's, but if you have the option, the serviceable struts are better because you can order some Koni strut inserts and pop em' right in as soon as the GR2's die, for a price though. They say it's the closest thing you can get to full out racing suspension. I've also read that you can get the front KYB AGX's for the MR2
and pop em' right in a Corolla but only for the front, they say they're stiffer and adjustable? I'm not totally sure =/

Stay away from the Gabriel's no matter what you plan on putting em in. Monroe's are good but the KYB's are better

ha i kinda figured that 160 dollars for all 4 seemed kind of janky. i found the kyb gr2's on horsepowerfreaks.com for like 55 a piece sounds about right? should i worry about the springs or leave the old ones in?

I recently go my gr2's for about that so sounds good.
They make koni yellows for the gts but they wil run you 899$ for the set on a good day.
Monroe's are ok but about the same price as the gr-2's so I'd just go kyb.

I run some KYB GR2s and Eiback lowering springs. Ok for daily driver and relatively inexpensive but there are a lot better setups out there, will cost you though.

Good luck.

ya i daily drive my car so braking and cornering arent too much of an issue for me. i like the ride comfort. it does great on the stock setup now but it feels like the front struts might be wearing out since it seems a little bouncye freeway and the front wheels seem to float going 70 when you move the steering wheel. but on city roads it is fine. i was also going to make sure the tires are all balanced this weekend to make sure that isnt contributing to the factor. so in the future i will probably be doing the kyb gr2 struts and eibach springs along with some rims should give it a good stance.

also does anyone know the stock rear speaker size? i think its like a 5-1/4"?? i wanna get some replacements this week the stockers arent cuttin it for me lol
