Hey Everyone,
I just picked up this wagon for $500. It's a very clean shell, no rust, one small dent that I think will pop out, and it runs great. I'm already loving it. I get about 34 MPG mixed driving so I'm very happy with that. I got the car bone stock minus a tint job and being covered in a bad primer job. I painted the car satin black and threw a set of wheels on it that I had around and have now tinted the headlights, tail lights, and side marker lenses. Just picked up a tinted license plate cover tonight. I hope to learn as much as I can about the car and I'll probably lurk on here pretty often.
Ooooooh my god. I have sooo many questions for you. I have the same exact (well actually mines a 91, but identical bodied) car and plan on murdering it out this summer. Help for these cars is hard to find, especially the wagon version. So now that I have found this I'm pumped!
First things first, what paint did you use? And did you re-prime before painting? If so what primer? Did you use a clear coat? Which brands? I am looking at getting the hotrod flatz hot rod black for mine. Anyone know how good this is? And what primers/clear coat to use with it?
Next is tint, how dark did you go? 35%? 20%? 5%? It looks like you've tinted the windshield as well, what % is that? What kind of tint did you use? Did you do it yourself? Was the installation easy? I'm looking at the Gila tint 20% precuts that you can order from autozone, anyone use these? Are they good? Easy install?
Lastly (I think), is the headlight/taillight tint? Did you use spray? If so What brand? how many coats did you use? I may get the VHT Nightshades, any contenders to how well this works?
Hope I'm not pestering you with all of these questions but I'm super excited that someone has the murdered out this car. I can't wait to do mine. Hope it looks as nice as yours.

The paint I have used on both of my black cars is Krylon 'Rust Tough' Semi Flat enamel. It is just a spray can, so you can't expect the world from it, but the results have been acceptable for what I want. It is by no means a show car, I just like to have some fun in my beater. No clear coat, and I put it right on top of the primer. I put it right on top of the factory paint on my SE-R.

It is 5% in the back and 20% in the front. It was already tinted when I bought the car. I have never done tint myself, I leave that to the pros

Yes, it is VHT Nightshades on both the headlights and tail lights. 3 coats on the tails. 2 coats on the headlights. The only thing I can say is prep work is key. I took the tails off, cleaned them well, etc and they look great. I sprayed the heads on the car and didn't really clean them, and they have chipped away a little. It may just be from the headlight heat though.

To each his own! Dog my style if you want.
For those interested, I picked up some new wheels. A little more old school looking in my opinion. Sorry, they're staying silver.

WOWW! You got that look with spray can!? Couple questions.. How does it hold up? To sun? To rain? To snow? Is it that tough? Secound, you said you put it right on the factory paint of the SE-R? It doesn't chip or peel? I'm kinda blown away right now you may have just saved me hundreds of dollars.
OH and how many cans did it take to do it? How many coats did you do?
I don't think he was doggin your style... more like your attempt at ebonics or whatever you kids call it these days.
I personally like the wagon without the blacked out lights and with the new Superior wheels on it, or are they AREs... either way they're not really old school but more for the Domestic car look.

Thanks a million in advance
None of the elements have adversely affected the paint as far as I have experienced. Mind you, it doesn't look GOOD. If you want it to look GOOD, I'd probably look into spraying it with a gun with proper paint. When I did my SE-R (formerly white) it took 7 cans for complete coverage and then a couple more cans for touch ups, etc. Only used 6 cans total on the Corolla, but it was primered so it didn't have to go on as thick. Hope that helps.
Not my line of country....but, so what? To each his own. My question is......why "murdered out" ? Is that supposed to sound cool or something ?
Because everything is black from top to bottom.. Not that it's suppose to sound cool but that's just what Its called, the OP certainly didn't make up the name. Idk why everyone in here is picking on it... That's just that. Not like the OP could change the name nor can anyone else.. And I'm SURE that if he said that his cars were "blacked out" or something like "everything dark" people would come in here and be like "it's called murdered out you idiot!".. http://www.murderedoutrides.com/ have a look..
