i know! the rest of the intake looks pretty close to that from what i could see. thats why i was thinking about doing the seafoam, do you think that will clean it up pretty good?
I have never tried Seafoam myself, but several guys on the Tercel Forum swear by it.
It can't hurt to try it.

If you have a few hours just pull the intake and valve covers and clean it right, seafoam will help but it won't do a great job. Seafoam works best to help prevent what you have got already. Just my opinion though.

I second this. You should remove it and clean it with varsol or something.
that would work good yes, but i was looking to clean the intake mani from all the egr crap...
Well I'm not telling you to take the intake off, that's your choice but if you do Brake clean works wonders for cleaning the EGR, and old slug stuff off.
No offence intended, but they do seem to be more involved (Modifications and such)with their cars than we Corolla guys.

I have been thinking of building one of those. Have any suggestions for a quick-n-easy?
