89 Corolla GTS (4age) suddenly cutting out and dying?

anyone ever experienced this? sometimes it will have a hicup while accelerating and sometimes it will die completely. i was thinking it could be the ignitor, its defenetly electrical but im not too experienced with these cars. anything else i should check? thanks in advance.

If you believe its electrical then I'd suggest getting a toyota service manual, (ebay or other), if you don't have one already. Then work through and test the different points that could be at fault. Ignitor, distributor, plugs, cap, wires etc. etc. Does it throw any codes out? Has it has a recent tune up? Check for adequate fuel pressure etc.

yeah it mostly hesitates under load while accelerating, also my cooling system wont build any pressure and the heater in the car will blow warm but not hot like it should, maybe the ecu thinks the motor is cold and is running it rich? i pulled the cold start injector connecter and that dident do anything so im lost , any suggestions? thanks.

it could be bad afm, bad connection to afm, bad dizzy or coil/igniter. does it misfire alot. if it does its prob a ignition based problem. it might help to spray the manifold area with break cleaner or somthing that will raise idle if you have a vacuum leak. does it die when your driving or when you do stop and go?

also a bad coolant temp sensor can cause the car to hesitate too.

without actually hearing the engine and seeing it happen its kinda hard to help.

bad fuel pumps and fuel pressure regulators does funny things also, but a bad coolant temp sensor can make the car run funny aswell. best bet is to try a working on from a car that uses the same sensor. yes and a fuel pressure test can let you know your pumps condition also.
