Need help with bogging '90 Corolla DX

Ok guys I need alittle help here.

I'm not really sure how to describe what the car is doing other than to say it sounds like the motor is being choked or missing, it like spits and sputters. To keep it running I have to keep my foot in the gas.

I need ideas on things to check for.

Here is what I have done so far.
-compression test shows good equal compression across all cylinders
-new plugs
-new fuel filter
-using an inline spark tester between the plug and plug wire the dizzy seems to be fine but I wouldn't bet the bank on it...

So what is next?? Am I not getting fuel or not getting air.
Are injectors easy to change on these motors??

I figure it is the dizzy and plug wires or a bad injector??

What do you guys think??

Thanks.

It could be a problem with fuel pressure(low) or ignition. I would also check for vac lines that are leaking. Check for stored computer codes which may not set off check engine light. Here's how to do it.

Nice, thanks for the quick response. What could be inhibiting good fuel pressure since I put a new fuel filter in? Bad or going bad fuel pump??

I have never really had to mess with VAC lines. Can you give me any detail like this rubber hose from here to there or anything like that to look for on the VAC side.

Thanks again. Any thought on injectors or not likely the problem.

As for fuel pressure was thinking possible bad pump or a restriction in fuel line. Could also be a pinhole in line but generally would see a leak to ground. As for vac lines check overall condition to see if cracked and listen with engine running as can generally hear a hiss indicating a leak. If you suspect injectors could try adding a can of cleaner to gas tank. Antother possibility is an old timing belt that could have slipped a tooth or two and has timing all out of whack.

Tbelt snapped about a year ago, had it replaced and has driven fine since until now.

For the last couple years I recall a hissing under the hood back by the intake manifold. I felt around to see if I could feel the air blowing out but could never pin point it. Maybe it has caught up with me.

I thought if I could get an injecto from Pull A Part or something I could swap it around with all of my fine until the problem possibly went away. I would rather do that than put my money into a bottle of injector cleaner. I am just not sure how hard the injectors are to install and uninstall.

Thanks again for the ideas.

Track down that vac leak and that should fix it. You wouldn't feel air blowing out. The leak is actually (suction) air being drawn in and leaning out the mixture thus making it run crappy. There's a bunch of vac lines on the back side of engine (4AFE) .The map sensor vac line is a major one that connects from firewall to the intake. Also on mine (assume yours is same) there is an unused vac connection on intake that has a rubber plug on it. Maybe yours is missing.

Cool, thanks for all the input. If the rain holds off this weekend I guess I know what I will be doing.

you might also want to check the timing and make sure it's correct
