I have a 89 corolla gts and I am wondering if it is possible to eliminate the MAFS?

yes, you can install a standalone ECU that has a MAP sensor.

Sorry, you can prove me wrong but you don't sound like one who knows what's involved in using a standalone ECU to replace the OEM unit. I'm not sure if there is a plug and play solution but even with that, you'd have to basically know fuel injection wiring. You'll also have to learn how to program the thing. Else you could pay someone to install and tune it if indeed it is too much for you to handle.

May I ask why you are trying to get rid of the MAF?

Look I am not a moron and I have owned my fair share of speedy cars. I just have never owned a standalone. And this is my first toyota. I was just curious what it would take because the gts I bought is in rough shape with a flex tube in place of the intake pipe between the TB and AFS. I have tryed to fine the stock air box and no one has one, so I guess I am going to have to go with an aftermarket. But trust me I know what I am doing under a hood I just want to do it right. That is why I ask questions from you fine people.

installing a standalone is not something to be taken lightly. If you don't install it or set it up right your car won't run anymore and if you don't tune it correctly your car can run like crap or you could blow your engine...

You can buy a plug and play type standalone from DIYAutotune.com

http://www.diyautotune.com/diypnp/index.html

they use your stock harness, but you have to still wiring everything inside the ECU... (there is a video on the site)

That's why I said "you can prove me wrong". It was just wording of your question and response that made it seem that you are going to have a lot of research and learning to do. I never said you couldn't do it. After all, we all start at the same place anyways.

You can also use a JDM ECU and harness from a MAP sensored AE92 Trueno/Levin... if you can find one.
