Installing 6x9's on the Rear Deck (AE92)

Well I am getting my Corolla ready to go to the University in the fall. When i bought it, all of the speakers were blown. I have since replace the front 4" speakers and it is now the time to put in the rear. Since I had some 6x9 Pioneers just sitting in my room, i decide to put them in. I was just going to cut into the deck and put them in that way; however, a couple of bars from the trunk prevented me from doing this. Time for a new plan:

I had some OSB wood just lying around, so i decided to use that.

I traced the inside and outside of the speaker, and cut them out. It turns out that i needed 3 layers of 3/4 inch OSB wood for a total height of 2.25 inches.

i glued the layers together and waited. (I also put wood filler on the edges so it will be smooth on the outside when sanded)

once dried i test fitted them. all that hangs out of the bottom is the magnet. (i know in the pics there are only 2 layers, this was before i made the third. also i made them vertical so i wouldn't have to mess with the hole from the old speakers)

and that is all i have completed as of tonight. Tomorrow will include:

sanding down the outside

painting it black with some rattle can

drilling some holes in the deck and mounting them

I hope it looks better than that when finished... though it will look to bulky for a lot of people's liking, as long as you're happy with it, it won't matter.

I have sanded it down and the paint is drying right now. i am also going to take off the carpet on the deck. so everything will be a semi-gloss black. i personally like how it looks right now. here is a pic before I painted them:

It looks nice. I'm going to do this with some speakers I have laying around. It looks easier than the other DIY.

What happened to your roof?

That is what i thought too. I also didnt want to cut up my deck. and this way i can put the 5 1/2 inch speakers if i choose to.

There was a huge hail storm about a month ago. my roof, hood, and trunk were damaged. My front windshield got smashed out and my rear window was cracked badly. I have since replace the front and rear windows, but i havent had a chance to work on the dents. i might just bondo it over and get a new paint job
