upon hard acceleration car stumbles. Recently had coil and igniter replaced. When checking for spark, did notice #1 plug was pretty wet. Would first step be new plugs? What about the Accel pump? Read some stuff about that.

new plugs wouldn't hurt. I would also clean the carburetor.

Have you tried taking the plug out (wet one) putting it int he spark plug boot, grounding it out on the frame, (or some good ground) and then htiting the key for a second to see if you get a good strong spark on that cylinder? If you have access to them there are better ways to test your spark, but if your careful this way will get the job done and at least start narrowing things down for you.

BTW... if you do it this way be sure to keep your spark plug away from the whole just on the off chance you ignite any air/fuel charge that comes out on the compression stroke!

You can also check the engine timing.

I have. Probably not clear as I should have been. The spark issue resolved with new coil and igniter. Another issue is the hesitation. Related? Specifically, I'm thinkin' the AAD and its location and how to test.

Check for vac line leaks and that engine probably has a ton of em. Check the centrifigal advance on distributor for binding /rusty springs. To check remove cap and try turning rotor by hand . It should move slightly and spring back when released. Check EGR valve for sticking and for vac leaks. As you mentioned the accelerator pump on carb is also something to check. In additon check fuel pump as it might be weak.
