for those of you who have ran your amp wiring where is the best place to run it to the trunk? i have a gts, i need to fit the power wire which is 4gauge, 2 sets of rca cables, and then a 18 gauge turn on wire..
and also does someone have the wiring diagram for the radio harness that would be awesome!!
ha this sucks. im gonna have to basically tear my whole interior apart to put my speakers and deck and all the wires.
one question tho. is there like a sequence to taking apart the dash?
I ran mine on the passenger side under the carpet and the side panels.
As for the wiring harness... buy a harness adaptor at Walmart, $10 and it saves you so much trouble, they sell the Scosche brand and it comes with instructions.
is yours cut? usually the adaptors you buy just plug into the stock harness. but usually any wires that come in the same color group is for the speakers. say you got purple, and purple with a black strip. purple would be the + side and the purple with the back strip would be the - side. if i remember correctly its somthing like purple, white, gray and green for speaker wires. black is ground, red and yellow are usually power. however its mostly color matching.
even if this is wrong all you would need to do if find the right wires to turn on the headunit. and you can test the rest with trial and error.

You don't need to know what wire is what on the Toyota harness, all you need to know is what wire is what on the new deck... then match them on this harness THEN plug it into the Toyota connector.
Either way the harness comes with instructions AND colour coded/printed labels on each wire.
IF you still need to know, do a search on the Corolla forum, there's been a few threads before where people posted pics of the harness colours, if you can't find it I have it somewhere on my pc, I can dig it up and upload it to my photobucket.
Honestly if you're not sure how to do this stuff, then you probably shouldn't be doing it. Car audio is an easy thing to do wrong if you don't know what you're doing. Especially when it comes to tuning the amplifier for the sub. I've been doing it for about 6 years now. I have a full Pioneer Premier system in my Corolla GTS right now, and it sounds great.
You can run the power wire down the driver side and the RCA, and REM wire down the passenger sides. It's better to keep them separate to prevent any engine/ground noise you hear sometimes. With a subwoofer you're not likely to hear any noise anyway...
But the trim panels you need to remove are really easy, take off the door jam trim first, it just pulls off, then remove the two bolts for the kick panel piece and I believe it should come right out, the bottom cushion of the back seat is real easy to get out and you dont need to remove the folding seats. That's pretty much the only stuff in your way. Just try to wire everything clean and organized so no wires gets pinched or put too much stress on.
And if you're curious where to run the power wire through the firewall, there's a black circle rubber grommet that one thing runs though, I can't remember if it's for the accelerator cable or what it is, but you can poke a hole in it and run the power right through there with it, it wont hurt anything.
But any other questions let me know, I might put up some pictures of my install soon. Good luck!

i know enough to install a system, ive done it on a few vehicles. my only concern with this car is i have good interior plastic pieces and i want to keep them nice, i know how well they like to break. and things i dont know i try to google and research or ask you guys for advice. which i appreciate!
as far as the wiring i was looking at everything last night and trying to plan my layout of everything. i decided im going to mount my amps onto the back of my rear seats.
i took the whole day off this friday so i can have plenty of time to make it pretty. i will definetly have pictures for you guys either on the weekend or monday.
and one more question for you createdtoburn, i have never torn into the dash on this car. could you advise me on how to get to the deck? like what pieces do i need to remove so i can remove the old and put the new in? thanks again
You have a better chance of breaking the little plastic pieces that hold the trim on. I just take a rubber coated prybar and be very gentle and find out where the plastic pieces are. If you pry near the connector piece it should be fine. They are even replaceable. Just take your time
Crutchfield.com sells connectors for your stereo wiring harnes so your don't have to crimp, tape, or solder wires.
