USA need help on light issue.

so i just bought a ae92 sedan recently, and i didnt notice but the brake lights(non of the three) come on when i brake, the lights work like turns and lumination. there wasnt a fuse cover for the car from the last owner that i got it from so i dont know which fuse it which, but i tested them all anyways, and replaced the one that was burnt. but here is the thing, the one that was burnt, even after replacing it, it still doesnt light up when i touch the fuse tester to it, but there is another 2 fuses that dont light up either, hopefully i can get a ride to the junk yard and get a cover so i know what the fuses are, but idk why my brake lights still dont work. but ill try my best to explain the fuse location so maybe someone out there that knows the car really well can help me out, anything will help i really do appreciate it.

the 3 fuses that doesnt light are, from driver seat looking in, its the top row closes to the driver seat, and the other one is on the second to the last row second to the end towards the firewall also the last one is the last row second to the end towards the firewall as well.

im not a electrical speacialist, but hopefully someone that has had this problem b4 can help me, or a person with great expertise can give me some guidance as well. again id like to say thank you and i very so much really do for surely appreciate the knowledge of vehicle mastery.

In most cases it's the rubber stopper for the brake light switch that's at fault. It's located under the dash at the very top of the brake pedal. When the pedal gets depressed, it touches the rubber stopper, which pushes against the switch and makes the brake lights come on. If this rubber stopper wears out or deteriorates then the brake lights won't come on when you press the pedal. Sometimes the actual switch can become faulty too, although this isn't as common. However, on the odd chance that there is a problem with the electrical circuit in the fusebox, here's a photo of the diagram on the back of the fusebox cover (credit for the photo goes to Plasma_Jet) -

ok after looking at your pic, i now know that the fuses that arnt working on the test light is first row (stop) second row (tail) and last row (fog) now my car does not have any foglights, but the fuse for stop was the one that was blown out, and the tail fuse dont even light, even though the fuse isnt blown. and here another thing, the brake switch on the under the dash, i unbloted it and manually pressed on the button too and still nuthing... idk im at a loss, maybe you can help me out on this, id really love to drive my car. it sucked that one the way home the brake lights stop working and the speedo died too... it was working when i test drove it and looked at it, but crapped out on the way home...

Hmm, in that case it could be a problem with the tail light relay. The one labelled 'FOG' would be for models equipped with the rear fog light, which would be on the same relay as the tail lights.

The tail light relay should be located behind the dash, on the driver's side (LHD). Here's a diagram of where it's located on a 1990 Corolla (as indicated by the red arrow, ignore the blue box) -

ok i will try buying a new switch, autozone has one in stock with ligetime warranty for $10 so ill go get that, and see what happens, but more than likely ill have to get a light relay, since the stop fuse doesnt do anything when i touch it with the light tester. if i have anymore more problems with it ill post, if i fix it ill post too.

The instrument cluster needles should be controlled by the fuse labelled 'GAUGE'. Try checking it to see if it has blown.

Speedo cable possibly came loose on the back side of the cluster, transmission side or possibly it broke.

ok thanks ill look into the cable, i spent about 20mins looking for it in the transmission, i couldnt see it? ill keep looking but i couldnt find anything on the internet where it was, sorry im a little comp illiterate... only internet time i get is world of warcraft or forum trolling XD but yeah ill looking into the back of the intrument gauge, and the fuse. if anything ill look into the cable some more, and pull it out to check if its broken. been a long time since ive done anything with a speedo cable, so looking for it is kinda hard since i dont remeber how itll look like(last time i did one was a sr20 swap on a s14 with my cousin and used a s13 speedo splice) but yeah from what i remeber from that was red teeth on a black knob with a cable running outta the tranny(FWD tranny has a lot running outta it, more than im used to) maybe if someone can send me a pic of how it looks like or decribe where its located at.... took me 10mins to find the fuel filter and change it... haha sorry im being really lame rite now, i feel lame since ive worked on many cars, but this car is just new for me, im just glad that the forums still have people that care enough to spend some of their time and wisdom with other people that enjoy the same hobby, thats why im always thanking in advance and again anything will help thanks in advance i really do appreciate it.

The sppedo cable is a two part piece with a silver knurled connector to join the pieces. Look on the drivers side firewall. The only cables coming through it are for speedo, accelerator cable and heater cable. For your wiring problems on your stop lights here is a link to a wiring diagram if you want to do a little digging to find why your fuse is blowing on the circuit.

the brake light switch on these cars go pretty easily. Mine just went for the second time a few weeks ago.

I was about to get one from advance auto for $9 and they had it in stock.

If you get a new brake light switch make sure it's one for a cruise control or none-cruise control model corolla as they are different.

ill keep that inmind, idk if mine came with cruise or not, since the car was kinda in pieces in a way.... there are mission pannels on the dash(could have been a cruise control button there or not) but ill take a pic of the brake switch later and maybe someone can idenitify it for me.
