if you were me... which low budget low boost build?

i know its another turbo thread, but i would like some input on guys thats used one of these setups.

i'm gonna hold off on the 3s for awhile. just gonna play with my smallport a little.
anyways gonna try to setup a low budget boost build.

option 1. gt25 turbo with fmu and msd btm setup with 2 step cooler spark plugs, this setup is dinosaur aged especially when you consider megasquirt will cost almost as much to setup. however it does favor in that i can still use the stock ecu. not hoping for much with this setup maybe 150-170whp on the stock boost a gt25 will go. it would cost me about $1000-1200 to setup.

option 2. my buddy has a supercharged aw11 with a rod knock. so i might take the management and supercharger out of that and run it on my highcomp smallport for the time being, eventually just buying the stuff i was gonna do in option 1 minus the msd btm and fmu.

i'm leaning more towards option 2 for the reason that the gze management can manage boost, but i have beet told that when you use a turbo instead of the sc12 that the ecu tends to run a little leaner on the top end.

you guys might say why not megasquirt.... my answer is simple i dont wanna go dyno tuning. my whole goal is to stay with a stock ecu. its not like i'm looking for crazy hp out of these setups just 150-170 range.

which would you guys do?

You don't have to dyno tune, all you need is a wideband and a A/F gauge, or if you're really serious, an EGT gauge.

My corolla has never been on a dyno and it runs great, I just street tuned it. most of it was auto-tuned by tunerstudio (the tuning program)

My RX-7 has only been on a dyno once and ran perfectly fine before that at 250 whp. I only gained power on the dyno because I upped the boost.

a dyno might give you a bit more top end power by fine tuning your ignition tables, but fuel is much better left to street tuning.

I would just get a GT2560R and an ebay manifold and a megasquirt PNP kit and be done. You might need bigger injectors... I'm not sure. But you can find them used pretty cheap.

If you're comptent enough to do a street tune... its WAY harder to tune on the street as you have traffic and others you need to watch out for.

That setup is shit. I'm running the same temp plugs as stock and they're fine. I did have one step colder and they fouled fast = too cold to achieve self cleaning temp.

Honestly, I'm thinking about going back to NA on my car due to constant ignition side problems. I'm even wondering how a completely stock IIA distributor would handle mild boost, would it start knocking due to pre ignition as the result of the timing on it. Also if I was to take back a few years, I'd go supercharger, its "easier" to drive and it can be fun, I'd probably get an eaton M45...

aside from turboing with the gze engine management, i too thought about what would happen if i tossed the sc12 and used a eaton m45 from a mini cooper instead.

option #3..... buy supercharged aw16 (if true original supercharged car) and fix the motor... you'll have a very easy fix and a much better chasis to drive around in.
