Strut Replacement

I am replacing the front struts on my 91 model. I got them off with no issues and I am reassembling them. My question is the strut rod bolt needs to be torqued to 35 pounds and there is a mark on the spring seat the must face out. How do I torque the nut without moving the spring seat? There has to be a trick to this but I just cannot seem to figure it out.

Thanks

the spring seat has a cut on it that should line up with your struts. i would not worry about torqing it to proper specs. get it on as much as you can. then bolt it back in the car. when you have the entire weight of the car on the struts again go back and torque it. this should prevent it from spinning freely.

after working on cars for awhile the only things i really follow torque specs on are subframe bolts and engine stuff. other than that most of the chassis stuff is just common sense to not over torque, and torquing enough so it stays on. thats just me though, torque specs are mainly there for 2 reasons. 1. to keep things in tolerance and 2. to keep bolts from breaking. torquing a 14mm bolt to 80lb.ft of tq will of course break it lol.
