Do you have some experience changing out a clutch?

I might have miss some steps. This is all from when I did my auto-to-5spd swap. Wrote this in 5 minutes. If wanted, I can possibly scan the pages out from the FSM and send it to you via email.

Basically:

You may need an engine hoist and a rolling hydraulic jack or two rolling hydraulic jacks, whichever you prefer. One for engine, one for trans.

Raise front of car about 2 - 3 ft, have on jack stands.

Disconnect battery, remove starter, unhook all transmission wirings, clutch lines, cables. Can also remove top transmission-to-engine bolts.

Remove wheel assemblies, unbolt lower ball joints from hub assemblies, remove both CV axles from hub (can be entirely removed if so).

Remove lower subframe (center bar and the crossbar that have the control arms). The engine/ trans assembly is held on by four mounts, two will be on the bottom bolting to the subframe so the last two will hold the assembly up, no problem.

Remove driver side hub, if necessary for access.

Utilize a rolling hydraulic jack for the engine. Use a piece of wood to put in between the jack and the bottom of the oil pan, prevents the pan from getting damage. Utilize another jack for the transmisson.

Loosen the rest of trans-to-eng bolts. Then unbolt the top driver side mount, making sure jack is in contact with the trans so it doesn't drop and ease of mount unbolting.

Slowy drop the jacks down, the engine/ trans assembly should angle down towards the driver. Lower down until it is enough clearance for trans to clear chassis.

Remove the rest of the bolts, gently wiggle the trans away from the motor.

Didn't catch your edits in your post before I sent the email. I'll send you a second email that'll be the torque specs from the FSM. Some specs will not apply, just to let you know, unless you were taking the trans apart or something.

As for the fluid if you drain out the trans, use 75W90 Gear Oil or 80W90 Gear Oil. Takes about 2.7 quarts. For the clutch fluid, DOT3 Brake fluid.

54ft lbs for an 88, there can't be a whole lot of difference for your 89 I wouldn't think.
