Question 1990 GTS, Changing front speakers!

Ok, so usually I'm not retarded like this and figure everything out on my own, but I'm getting to the point of almost breaking something here and it's driving me crazy. On my 89 GTS it's freakin easy to get the front speaker out of the glove box side. A few screws and the whole thing drops down and out then you change the speaker.

Well in the 90 version they decided to make it a huge pain in the ass with like twice as many screws/bolts and damn near impossible to get out. From what I can see I got every single screw and the damn thing is ready to come down, except on the right side closest to the door, there's something I CANT see holding it in place still and I've yanked and yanked on it, and the damn thing will not come out.

Anybody come across this problem yet????

I haven't come across that problem, but I have removed the speakers twice since I've owned my 90.

For the passenger side:
If I remember right there are 5 m6 bolts, three on top two on bottom. One is behind the speaker grille, pop it off and remove that bolt. You also have to unscrew the glove box latch loop thing and maybe some of the glove box screws on top. I also helps to remove the kick panel as it also runs along one edge of the lower dash and overlaps it. After that some light tugging and it should fall down. Be mindful of the speaker wire though, don't let it fall too far as it doesn't have that much slack so disconnect it before removing the dash.

Driver side:
I think there are also 5 M6 bolts, same configuration as the pass side. One is behind the speaker grill. Other items to un-attach are the hood release cable, AC duct that blows on your legs and remember the speaker wire before removing completely.

That's all I can think of from memory. Hope it helps.

Same here... I did the speakers on both 89 and 90 GTS. BUT I think the US and CDN dashboard versions are different, the speakers seem to be easier to reach as the dash is not as bulky.

in my 90 sr5 you pretty much have to remove everything below the dash.... lots of screws & bolts that have to come out....

Thanks a lot guys, I figured it out finally. I had no idea the grill popped out on the speaker!!! On my 89 the grill doesn't come out, it's built in, so I didn't even think to look at that. It was just the one bolt behind it that stopped me. :p
