weird electrical problem, 92 5spd Wagon

I am now the proud owner of a 1992 Corolla DX Wagon 5speed AE93. Its a flat black station wagon, one that has been seen on here before. HighVolkage owned the car before me, and he went back to his love, a b13 SR20DE Sentra SE-R, and I wrecked my old car. He's my roommate and got tired of having to drive me around so I finally talked him into letting me buy the 'rolla haha.

Anyway, between you all seeing the car, and me buying it, my buddy rear-ended someone, and I don't know if that may cause this issue or not. Anyway, it has developed a few odd electrical issues.

If the rear defrost is on, and I use a turn signal, both arrows on the dash blink as if the hazard lights were on, but the outside lights work as normal. Doesn't matter if it's left or right turn signal, they both blink.

Also, the same thing happens if the high beams are on. If i use the turn signal with the high beams on, both arrows on the dash blink, but the turn signals on the car still work.

I'm thinking its probably a gauge cluster issue, with the indicator lights on the dash shorting out. Anyone else have this issue? I may just buy a new cluster and try it out, but I want to track it down since I plan on silver top 20v swapping the car, and want to make sure my body wiring is good before the swap

Thanks in advance

by that you mean the sockets? or should I check out the wiring to the sockets? I've dealt with many problems before, but most of the electrical problems I've had with other cars have been on added circuits for accessories and stereos and so they were very straight forward

it's an AE92 wagon... ae93 is probably what your VIN number says.

could be a crossed wire somewhere... if he rear ended someone check the wiring up front.

Okay, I will check that wiring. I knew it was an ae92 generation, but I just checked the VIN today when I went to get tires, and it said AE93, so I assumed it was a chassis revision or something. I've seen mentions elsewhere of AE93's and AE94s, even AE96's so I assumed it was more properly termed and AE93.

I'm new to Toyotas, I've owned nothing but GM cars up until now, so I'm still getting used to all the chassis and engine codes that Japanese manufacturers use
