Help! swapped in a le cluster, probs

ok so i swaped a cluster from a 90 le rolla into a 88 dx wagon heres the 2 problems im having

problem 1, the tach doesnt work, im guessing ill have to run a wire from one of the dizzy plugs to the back of the cluster but which one and where to? i know i had to do that on a yota truck in order for the tach to work.

problem 2, the temp needle shoots up to red as soon as i have the switch set to only thing i can figure out is the sender unit for the guage is different, i found out they do list different part #s

any imput would be awsome

The tach should work, everything is just plug and play requiring no need for any mods. Chances are that you could've gotten a bad cluster.

haha, nah im good, ill keep tryin

i think there does havta be a wire ran to the tach or something though cause its got the same round plug from the dizzy wiring that has a cap on it just like the 80's toyota trucks. Those you must run a wire from the tach to the back of the cluster from that plug.

im going to check the junkyard though from the car i pulled the cluster from to see if the wires are any differnt.

if all else fails ill just mount a mini tach with the stock no le cluster but i really dig the le cluster looks and cleaness off it compared to running a mini tach mounted on the column but thats what i did on my 94 rolla i had a couple of years back.

im still open for ideas though

LoL! kool man yeah i was thinking about the tach too, but the external ones is too ricey for me, not that im hating but i dont want to race with it, its my ultimate JDM corolla commuter project and im looking into some nice stock cluster with a tack, mine didnt come with one, but ill keep scrapping at the yards looking for one... i found one once, but i didnt have the cash the yard wanted $55+tax for it and all i had that day was $30 =( but yeah it looks way cleaner with that LE cluster...

Do that, +1. The wirings could be different, though, between the wagon and the sedan, even though the motors are the same and stuff. Don't know why it would be, but chances are possible.

And yea, the distributor does have a single wire that can wire up to an aftermarket tachometer. So you basically do have a choice of factory or "rice".

LoL! @ "rice" i mean i love rice for food, but in the car world i have always been more of a JDM oem type of guy, body kits and lights are too much for me... some cars can pull it off but most of them are just fail for me... haha if you ever been to the ontario street races here in SoCal youll know what i mean...

also kool, i would love to buy one offa you, just hit me up and well try and work something out.

you know, if your going to do that route, you might as well as buy the one on ebay, the 5' one with the shift light, its programmable to go to 11k rpm so itll be good for future if your ever guna do a beastly 20v swap or etc... its like $50 shipped too... so might looking into that if the sunpro ones are already $40-$50 at the stores.

Funny, yesterday I was in my wagon and thinking the same thing. I like this tach, it's smallish, and should fit into that space:

Amazon Amazon

And if you like color changing, for not much more:

Amazon Amazon
