Fantastic! Reminds me, mine is due for a change soon. I bought dino/synthetic blend, 20w-50, then I'll go to full synthetic for the next change. Need to source out & fix some oil leaks...

there is no reason to put 20w50 in a corolla... it'll just wear the engine down at start up and not oil properly.

In my owner's manual and the Toyota factory service manual, it has a chart with temp ranges (in both F and C) and the viscosity recommended. It says at the bottom of the chart, "temperature range anticipated before next oil change." Normally I'd go with 10w-30, but in the All-Trac/4WD owner's manual & FSM it says 10w-30 is for 0 F to about 40 F. I'm in Florida... it rarely gets below 30 F here, and rarely that temperature outside when I'm driving (also my wagon is garaged), so that's why I'm going with 20w-50 (70 F to over 100 F). It may be different than the other 6th gens, I don't know. Really I ought to go with 20w-40 from what the manual says, but I don't think I've seen that oil on the shelf recently.
The owner's & FS manuals both say to use 75w-90, 80w-90, or 90 gear oil for the transmission / transfer case / rear diff. for these wagons. I'm guessing that's also different than what the non-All-Trac/4WD sedans, wagons, etc use...
You bastards making me want to take off my valve cover and take pictures of it now! LOL
My '88 is sitting at 266992 miles, awaiting the timing belt replacement to get done. The valve cover was taken off only once in it's lifetime because one of the spark plug hole gaskets started leaking. All the rubber became fossils. I may have to change them out soon. When I changed the spark plug hole gaskets, I think I had put them upside-down... But it's been close to fine over the past 3 years or so.
My car has always been using Mobil1 Fully Synthetic 5W30, btw. Just recently, I've been using Engine Restorer, which actually works IMO. But I'm beginning to think some of the solid additives that looks to be in it could be clogging the filter. Kinda doubt it, but possibilities.

Oils have advanced a lot since that manual was written. you can run 5w-30 year round just fine, even 0w-30.
