it's either the starter is bad or you have a dead battery.

the starter is located right underneath the intake manifold next to the firewall side of the engine.

try taking a long screw driver, placing it on the starter and hammering the other end a few times. it might break the starter loose.

You don't need starter just new solenoid terminals.

This! I ordered a set of contacts from that guy. I highly recommend him. Search through topics here, you'll see some detailed pics I took of the process I went through recently.

If you're going through the trouble of pulling the starter out, you may as well take apart the solenoid and replace those contacts. It's really simple, once you've got the starter out that is. This is also much cheaper ($11 shipped I think?) compared to buying a remanufactured starter for $100 or whatever it is.

hey guys, thanks for the suggestions but i really didn't have anywhere comfortable to work as it is freezing/snowy outside here in new york and really icy on the street. Not to mention there is even more bad weather on its way.

i took it to the shop, it ended up costing me 70 bucks parts included. below I've posted where the starter can be found for a good price for anyone interested in going the replacement route.

be sure to use coupon code: BIG15 and you will get 15 dollars off.

You may have been able to have the shop replace the contacts, and still paid less... depends on how long it would have taken (shouldn't have taken too long at all).

I think ill keep the core now after reading that article. i'll definately try to rebuild it when i get a chance.i think i should be able to do so with the instructions provided on that webpage. my only question is which contacts do i get. A,B,C, or D?

I have a 1992 toyota corolla. are any detailed instructions for removal and install of the starter for my specific car?

I was gonna suggest you keep the old starter. Realize you sacrifice getting your core charge back but probably worth it. The old one with new contacts might end up being more reliable than the one you just bought. Those Nippondenso starters last along time. Most Toy dealers parts dept stock the solenoid contacts. Just remove the old and take in to size them up. If you want to buy them online Rogue can give you an idea which size you need. I remember him stating that he cut down the ones he bought for an exact fit.

Yeah, I cut down the ones I bought... I deliberately chose a different set of contacts, hoping to get a little more contact area (I think I did, but only a little!). They're probably going to be type A, but the best way to tell what ones you need is to take apart your starter solenoid. Instructions for that are on that link above (4crawler).

I'm planning on buying a set of type D so that next time I need to replace the contacts, they'll be closer to the type A that my starter uses, but with a little extra that shouldn't have to be trimmed down like B and C did.

i purchased contacts A and C. These needed no trimming as they are an exact fit. hope this helps anyone doing this repair on their starter.

Glad to hear you went with the contact replacement! Is it running fine now? After I replaced my starter's contacts, I haven't had a problem with it since.

About the contact types, starters can be different, depending on the car it's in (All-Trac, FWD, coupe)... the starter in my wagon takes two of type A. Best way to tell is to take apart that solenoid and have a look.

I had to trim mine as well because the Toyota parts guys here are stupid and argue about everything trying to say they didn't exist. They found them in a drawer and it looked close enough so I figured w/e and just made them fit lol.
