Bad spark plugs, wires ,distributor cap/rotor , defective replacement distributor and also a broken timing belt. Another poster had similar problem (replaced distributor )and in his case he had replaced the rotor and it was defective.

Question

when you turned the engine over with the key, does the rotor turn? Was it a new distributor you replaced yours with? why did you replace it?
is the wiring to the distributor in good shape? How do you know there is no spark?

I think the dizzy can be tested.. to see if the coil(s) are good.. it's expensive to replace some of these parts and find out they were good...
I can't remember, but do some shops/stores have a tester you can pulg the dizzy into to test it?

Autozone test guide:

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/rep...00c1528006ef7b

read the repair guide.. if you remove the dizzy.. be sure to mark the exact location of the dizzy (with a mark or scratch)on the engine block, so when you put it back in, it keeps the proper timing. It must be exact..

Question

is the alternator and wiring to and from the dizzy good? Some cars must have a complete circuit and if there is a blown component the engine will not run...

When you did your spark test did you just put plug in spark plug wire or did you also wrap a length of wire around threaded area of plug and attach it to ground.? If you didn't do last step you didn't complete the ground circuit and wouldn't see a spark.

Sorry, I wasn't clear.. I was just stating that if there are any electrical problems, that can affect the ignition system...

so, trying to get this straight,, at one time the car was running,,, it needed a tune-up at some point. At the point of the tune-up, the dizzy, cap and plugs were replaced. Is this all correct?

Or, it just flat stopped running, and you are shot-gunning the troubleshooting process. YOu thought it was time for replacing the dizzy, plugs, and wires, and still not running??

BTW< have you checked the fusable link(s) ? There is at least 2 on my Corolla that can prevent the car from running, if blown.
