AE92 Windshield Removal

Anyone know how to? I may go to a junkyard on a free day and fuck around with a junky ae92 to see how... but passed time i kept breaking the white clips that hold the mold strippings/ trims or whatever you want to call them.

Don't feel like spending $150+ for a new glass when I can get one for less than $50. Also need to do some minor rust repair under the windshield and redo the weather seals.

Damn, what happened there Blof-fan?

As for the white clips, can you order those from Toyota? I know my All-Trac's FSM has the steps for replacing all of the glass on the wagon, but it looks like a two-person job at a minimum. I think if I had to replace any of the glass (except the side doors, that should be relatively easier), I would just have a pro do it. I'm all for doing my own car work, but I draw the line at some things (like this, or a transmission / differential / transfer case rebuild).

AE92

Side windows are easiest on any car.

I have an FSM as well. But, yea.

Right now, my line on where I leave it to a pro to do work is the machining on my turbo motor build to get bored out and stuff. Solely because I don't have the machine for it.

Worse case, my windshield will just take flight. No biggie...

Ghehehe...well, my project car was going to be stripped for restauration, so all the windows had to go as well. I already had a brand new front and rear window sitting in my workshop.
I rang up a carglass company asking them to come and remove the old window, but there wasn't a company that would remove the old window without supplying and placing a new one.
So if no one would remove it the right way for me, I decided I'd do it myself the old fashioned way

I was surprised how much force it took to bust in the glass from the outside with a (reletivly) small hammer
3 years later, I still come across some small fragments of glass in the naked shell of the car

I removed and replaced my windshield, and it was hard. Removing a windshield to use again will test your patience. I'll bet if you do it you'll wish you had just paid the extra $100. It's so not worth the time. If you do try to get the junkyard one, you'll definitely need a buddy to help and the right tools. Some sort of wire to cut the adhesive is needed, starting at one point poking it through the glue and pulling it back and forth to cut.

I also had rust to repair underneath it before putting a new one in. I however took it to a shop to purchase and install so that I'd have their warranty.
