Was there ever a 6 speed mated to a 4A-GZE from the factory, AE92 or AE101?
Why I ask is on my 4A-GZE (AE92 version) into FX-16 swap, I cannot get reverse, but I seem to have 6 forward gears.
I haven't actually taken the car out onto the road yet to see for sure if there are actually 6 forward gears, but the shifter seems to go into 6 slots, and the car moves forward each time.

Haven't heard of 6spd being on 4AGZEs, only blacktop 20vs.
Yes. That is what I was thinking too.
Plus, this is supposed to be an "E" series gearbox. I've never heard of any of those being 6 speed.
I am about to do some experimentation in a few moments. I'll post my findings.

The problem was the shifter cable bracket on the gearbox. I had to drill some new holes and reposition it to get full linkage travel. I now have 5 speeds and reverse.

typically the shifter cables are different on the E series transmissions....
in the aw11 you can get around it if you modify the shifter bracket to fit onto an E series -- allows you to use C series shifters & bracket on the E series and it will all work fine.
if the trans was heavier than god, then it's an E series (typically the rear mount has to be modified to make fit... from what I've heard from other ae92 owners). If it felt like a C series then it was a C series. (another quick way to tell is all E series have a metal hardline that runs oil form one section of the trans to another... and this line runs externally on the bottom of the engine).

Yes, and yes.
