Rear Speakers in DX Wagon?

Hi all-- I just bought my first toyota. A 90 Corolla DX Wagon. She is pretty ugly on the outside. Very rusty and lots of holes! But she runs great and interior is not bad.
Trying to fix her up some. Just put in a new radio. Looking to put in some speakers in the back. The wiring on the radio had wires for rear speakers. Has anyone found where they are in the back? I am guessing in the rear hatch but havent looked yet. Thanks for any help.

I'm also interested in this. I just put a new stereo in my '91 and trying to figure out where to put rears. I'm not sure if there's a stock place to put them or if it would require some sort of mod or aftermarket box.

Just found this post...

91 Corolla DX Wagon speaker question...

I also just got done talking to Crutchfield and the best they could recommend was putting a couple speaker boxes in the cargo area. They couldn't find any info about stock locations for the rears.

There's a wagon at the local junkyard that has speakers on the panel of the rear hatch

If you are using the stock wiring harness for your new radio here is the diagram for rear speaker wires which I assume are back there whether being utilized or not.

I talked to a tech at a local installation shop once about doing the same thing. He looked at the database they have and said the rear speakers are mounted in pods in top of the rear shock towers. I don't have pods on my wagon. Need to find them on a donor car or fabricate something. The speakers are 4" or 51/4" rounds. Don't know about the factory wiring or that I trust it. Thought about mounting some speaker boxes to the back of the rear seats firing up, so when I lay the seats down they will fire forward.

I've seen those pods on the shock towers on the 7th Gen models but not on the 6th Gen. On the 6th Gen the seat backs overlap the shock towers which seem to interfere with placing speakers there. I'm starting to resign myself to the idea of setting some speaker boxes in the cargo area.

Some of the All-Trac / 4WD wagons have them on the ceiling, along with a storage bin that can be opened from the front or rear:

Unfortunately they're smallish, like the 4" or 5¼" size the 'dash' takes. In the pics above, I had the speaker covers off. Normally they look much nicer

I wonder if that could fit a regular wagon, that's actually kind of a neat idea I like the storage bin. The speakers look like 5 1/4" the ones in font on my wagon are 4".

RougeMoog: What's the width of that enclosure? I'll measure and see if it would fit, even if it didn't I would make one myself. That would be a nice Mod.
