I live in a part of ohio that requires emissions testing and went to get my '90 sr5 checked. It failed. I don't have a check engine light on but the NO reading was more than 300 ppm over the limit of 1440. Any ideas before some joker tries to tell me I need five million dollars worth of work. Maybe just a tune up?
Check to make sure the EGR is working if it has it. The function or one of the functions of the EGR is to reduce NOx emissions.
So I went through the trouble of ordering an egr valve, waiting for it to get delivered, and then found out my car dosen't have one??? What is this business? Replaced the cat for about 100 bucks more than the egr valve and the car passes e-check. Hooray. Still would like to know why some cars have them and some don't. Any ideas?
One more thing, anybody out there got a drivers side headlight motor for my sr5 laying around? My shit looks like popeye, that just won't do. Tried the salvage yards around here, I can't find an sr5 within 300 miles of here.(NE Ohio)
Pull a Part lists some 90 Corollas in their Cleveland locations (west and east side) but don't specify what model (sr5 or sedan). COuld give em a call before you drive their to verify. My 90 4AFE doesn't have an EGR valve either.
checked with pull a part, no sr5's or gts's. even checked a huge import yard, oldest corolla he had was a 96. Maybe I should try cinci or even indy somewhere.

Well I did say to check it IF IT HAS IT. LOL. I don't know why some have it and some don't. Probably a stupid California thing. I know my 91 4AFE has it because it's currently broken in my car at the moment.
Here is a link to headlight motor on Ebay which is in Akron so it would be close enough to check out in person if it happens to be same side(left side) as one that is acting up on your ride. If not have you tried removing assembly to clean up electrical connections and lubricate it? Maybe that's all it needs to make it operational.
I swear you guys are the shit. Thanks for the info 90. Im on it. The bezel screws are rusted and I've tried a grabbit bit and an irwin bolt out, no luck. (headlight is out, cant change it, grrrrrr) I'll try to take the assbly out and go at it like that since I have to chande the motor anyway. I'll see if brownies has a bezel too. Once again thanx for the info.
