OK... so I'm not the best with electrical wiring and such. A few months ago a friend and I set up our cars with subs. Most of the wiring was his work since he's more knowledgeable about electrical than I am. Anyways he'll be out of town for a while, so I'm asking you guys this.
The setup has worked with no issues until today. So I'm blaming this on the switches I just got... some background on the setup:
The blue remote turn-on wire from the stereo is going into a 30 amp relay, which then turns on the two amps (6x9s, sub). I installed two switches where the dash clock face normally is (since my clock was missing, and the junkyard one I got was dead), each as a kill switch for each amp. This way if I want to kill the sub for whatever reason (residential neighborhood, etc) I can do so. Plus those 6x9s and the sub are removable, so if I need the room in the back, all of that can be taken out. Then kill the remote turn-on signal going to them so that they're not just heating up for no reason under the seats. Anyways the switches I bought were from Radio Shack... 12V rated at 25A:

They're lighted, but too bright, so I bought new ones to replace them (12V at 16A):
I tried out the switches, and they're a bit too bright as well, but the amber doesn't bother me as much as the red (when it's dark outside). And I like the rounded style of them compared to the red ones (I know, vain).
So I swap the switches and turn the key to accessory. The relay clicks, the new switches light up, and the face of the stereo lights up. I switch one of them off to make sure everything is kosher, and... the stereo face goes dark, as does the other switch's LED. I check the 7.5A radio fuse under the dash, and it's blown. Why exactly did this happen? Like I mentioned, I'm not the greatest at electrical stuff. But after thinking about it moment, it doesn't seem right to have 16A switches on a 30A relay.
I forget why a relay was even necessary...
would I be OK getting a 15A relay to replace the 30A one? Would that work well with the 16A switches? Why have a relay there in the first place? I'm sure I asked my friend but I can't remember now.
Only other thing I can think of is trying a higher amp fuse for the radio under the dash, but that does not sound like a good idea to me. Do I just need to change out those damn switches and go back the Radio Shack 25A ones? I'm going to end up painting over the LEDs in that case... too damn bright.
