Best Bet? MAP Bracket Intake or Full-Blown Kit?

Got a bone-stock 4A-GE looking to breathe a little easier. Should I go with a 3" inlet adapter bracket for the stock intake/MAP or go with a Short-RAM kit?

My secondary question to that would be - if I get the short-ram, how do I manage to install it without having to use the stock MAP box-thingy, like I've seen in several engine pics?

Rock-n-Roll.

First thing... It's a MAF sensor or AFM, MAP is something different.

it doesn't really make that much of a difference.

You can't remove the MAF sensor without a lot of work which includes swapping ECUs and lots of wiring.

What he said ^

But they do make a translator box, check out www.maftpro.com

It can replace a MAF with a larger or less restrictive MAF or with a MAP sensor. I have no experience with it. I found it a few minutes ago via google search. It ain't cheap though.

Roger that. Figured I was using the wrong acronym. Gonna go with the Spectre MAF adapter (pn 81438 I believe) and an HKS or K&N filter - depending on room without having to relocate the battery. And holy crap at that maftpro.com stuff.

Going with the least expensive and more time consuming option.

Fabricating a MAF adapter from scratch. Once I get done I'll have some pics posted, should be rad. I figured I've done this kinda work before (without any experience lol) when I fabbed a hydraulic control arm for my dad's tractor... just drilling and welding, easy enough!

find an 87-78 MR2 in the junkyard and the AFM's have the adapter bolted to them.

Yeah, I think I'm going to go that direction as well once I have the 40-50 bucks to spare. For now, though, I'm on a $15 budget (lol poor man) - so getting the $5 in metal and using an oooooooold Injen filter from a Civic I once had. Just gotta wait for my step-dad to being the trailer with all the gadgets and welder home. Currently working on the gasket - using a block of what I think is silicone... lol.

Also taking hand-me downs! :P

dahn im waiting on some cash funds to come in too... i want to do a gts swap on my sedan... nice though, i went to the yard once and found a rx7, miata and a corolla and picked up some very nice(not ebay) maf adapters one of them had a sticker on it, and it said $69.99 so im guessing that one was bought back in the late 90's because i remeber a intake filter back then, costs about $80 just for the filter, non of this china made stuff like today...

Went with a K&N drop-in. Step-dad asked me why I wanted his welder and offered to get it for me, found one (the only one) at an Auto Zone around the corner (read: 45 mins away).

Here's today's uploaded pic of the engine bay:

She almost became one, considering my main(s) at the time were all Belf. But alas... there wasn't enough drink to close the deal at the end of the night.
