i need help with a 4af to 4afe swap

ok so i just bought an 88 sr5 corolla but the head gasket and the bottom end are shot on the 4afe. i have a sedan with a 4afe that was in in both engines are in my garage. the sr5 has an a240l transmission in it. and the sedan has a 3 speed/ a 131 if i do believe. my question is what do i need to get the over drive to work on the a240l transmission.? keep in mind im going from a carb engine to a fuel injected one

I'm a little confused. Are you swapping engines or transmissions or both? In the title you say 4AF to 4AFE swap but then you say they both have a 4AFE? If you are just swapping in a A240L, all you should need to do is have to wire up an overdrive on and off switch. Even without the switch, overdrive (4th gear) should still work, you just won't be able to turn it off. Since it is the non-electronic version, you won't need an ECU (or TCU). You'll need all the mounts from the A240L and not the A131

he realizes

you wire it to the trans, like it was before?

This is a more involved swap than I think you realize :P

you need a new fuel tank with a fuel pump and power going to it... the sedan tank won't work.

Yea, if the 240L is still already in the sr5 then leave the wiring as it is. I don't think the transmission is wired to the ECU or any part of the engine since it's the non-electronic version.

How come the sedan tank wont work in the coupe? Different shapes?

Is there the same number of wires going to that plug on each trans?

I dunno about the pump, should be easy enough to pull it and try.

Ok, but you'll have to pull back and remove tape and covering from the back of the plug to see how many individual wires come out of it on the sedan and on the coupe. Just because the pins are there doesn't mean that they are used. Hopefully the 240L has one extra wire meant for the OD. If not, there has to be a plug somewhere else that contains the OD wire. You should be able to trace it back from the button on the shifter.
