Coolant leaking. What is this?

My car has been leaking coolant for a while now. It's coming out of this:

The lower radiator hose connects to it and it is located directly under the distributor on a 4A-F.
What is this called? and would it be easy for me to take off and replace?

Thanks.

that's the thermostat cover, you should be able to get a new gasket for it at your local autoparts store.

and might as well replace the thermostat while you're at it.

alright cool. That's what I wanted to hear. I just picked up a new gasket and thermostat. I'll attempt changing them when my car cools off.

Thanks

When you replace stat look at the old one prior to installing new one. There is a jiggle valve on the thermostat that bleeds out air in the cooling system. When you install the new one install it so the jiggle valve is oriented in the same position (relative to thermostat housing). When you put it back together park on an incline (front end higher than rear) remove the rad cap ,turn heat on high and fill it up and run car with it removed till warmed up to bleed out any air pockets.

The thermostat and O ring are parts you may want to stick with OEM Toyota parts as replacements.

Just installed the gasket and the thermostat. If I had known it was that easy I would have done it six months ago. I used OEM because I didn't want to drive around but I did think $5 for a gasket was kind of steep. The old gasket had broken off and was floating around in the housing. No leaks so far. Thanks again
