Gen6 ksport coilovers

just did some research on coilovers for my ae91,,from what ive read they seem to be the best option if you want your car to be as low as possible ,,,,but im wondering if theres anything cheaper without too much of a compromise in handling and drivebility.

just to point out that all i wana do to my ae91 is have it low on 16z or maybe 17s,,its not gona be a speed demon but just a cruiser

Hey again!

If you want to lower your corolla the cheapest and most hassle free way to go is with something like super low springs (King's, Dobis), it's about a 2 inch drop. They won't take away anything from drivability and will increase handling. Also you won't need to get a cert.

Also I hope you found your seats

Cheers mate! She a work in progress! I saw some twin sidies I really wanna get for it but its just a matter of getting funds

But the lowering is yet to happen. Hahaha. I need to focus on one thing at a time

As for the boss kit and steering wheel Trademe I think the boss kit was $17 and the wheel $99. If I can find the links I'll post them up

if you want to slam your corolla springs aren't going to cut it... AE92s have crap suspension travel stock so you'll just be riding around on the bump stops. It will ride like crap and handle like crap.

That's why people suggest the k-sports. They have a threaded short stroke damper that increases suspension travel and doesn't decrease it if you lower it more (because your lowering the damper not the bottom spring perch)

if you want a decent drop, try APEX springs. They're under $200 and they're as low as I'd go on stock struts.

i have some D-sports up front on my ae92 with softer springs. it rides way nicer than the koni/ground control ever did. if you get these e-bay coilovers ask to see if you can get springs for them that are 1-2 kg softer.

as far as handling goes the thing ive found over the past years of driving is, on the street/autocross level unless you spend major $$$$ it doesnt matter. at these levels what matters is that it just WORKS. you probabally dont posses the skills to take advantage of the 1-2 seconds a $8,000 coilover set would make.

Could we use koni yellows with GC sleeves like the honda guys do to slam their cars? Lifetime warranty and easy adjustability, I know several people who wrecked ksport coilovers within a year just with daily driving, no track use. They seem like garbage to me.

yeah, but the problem is (and hondas have it to, but probably to a lesser extent). by "slamming" the car you use all the suspension travel. so you driving around on the bump stops.

you can cut or remove the bump stops to gain some travel, but then you might damage the struts...

one thing you could try is getting some koni short stroke race dampers (8611-1257) for the fronts, but you'd have to section the strut housing and weld it back together.

theres alot of factor into the slammed look. as eage8 said and from my own personal experiance the ae92 will have maybe 1/2" to 1" of damper travel, fine for small bumps but will be very crude and make you feel like your going to blow the dampers with any bumps or dips on the road thats higher than 2".

the biggest thing to having the slammed look are, what is the rim/tire combo. i used a 195/50/15 on an 8" wheel, its a little streched so the sidewalls look very low. however if i was to switch to a 205/50 or 55 i would have to raise the car maybe 1/2" to keep fenders at 1 finger gap.

if you could find a quality coilover, take the short stroke of those over the factory struts.

My 2c worth. Read the thread at the link below.

K-Sport Coil-overs

I eventually went to Eibach lowering springs with KYB AGXs up front and GR2s in the rear, on my GT-S, and bought another car just to use the K-Sports for autocross. They are great for auto-X, I don't recommend tham for daily road use.
I just wish I could get AGXs for the rear too.
My setup definitely will not slam your car, it only drops it about 1.2"
