Valve cover? leaking oil! D:

So my valve cover is leaking oil, it's a small amount of oil from the middle right above the exahuaust headers are. I need to know how to change it, is there a DIY writ up? Or a video? Or can someone explain to me how to do it? It's also leakin oil fromthe top bolts where the spark plugs are at, i don't think there's any oil in the spark plugs cause I don't feel a misfire, and I KNOW a misfire when I feel it! So, I really want to know how to take off the top valve cover or whatever it's called, I know it's the gasket. I just don't know how to tak it off, I only know a Mitsubishi but their completely different! So anyone know where I can get a write up or something?

I just did the same thind on my 90 sr5, it's real easy. Take the spark plug wires and spark plugs out, and take the three nuts off the top of the valve cover. You may find that you have oil in the spark plug holes that you'll want to get out BEFORE you take the plugs themselves out to keep from getting a bunch of oil in the cylinders. You might want to replace the grommets also. I got my valve cover gasket kit at autozone for under 20 bucks and had it done in about 35 mins. The grommets are a little tricky to get out. I used a flathead screwdriver and an old washcloth. If you aren't careful you will ding up the inside of the valve cover really easily, the washcloth will help with this. Take your time and look at how everything goes together and it's an east fix. You also need RTV sealant in 3 places or you WILL start leaking again. A chilton manual will tell you where to put the RTV. Good luck.

ya that's pretty much it.....sometimes tapping on the sides of the valve cover while you pry on it gently helps.

If you have a rubber headed mallet give it a whack which should free it. Here is pic of cylinder head showing parts breakdown for a 4A for ref.

They usually come in the valve cover gasket set. Every brand I've seen includes them in the pack.

alright picked up everything i need, just the Valve cover gasket and the Spark plug grommets! EVERYONE has informed me I DON'T NEED rtv sealant! Because the gaskets are rubber or whatever, they self dry and if i put sealant it won't come out right!
So you know what? since i couldn.t find a tread of pictures to do it, I will take pictures and show what i did! f*** it you know? lol hopefully it gets put in sticky if not ehh, good thing for someone like me that doesn't know and prefers a write up with pictures!

Always be sure to remove any and all oil/residue from anywhere the gasket will contact. If not clean, it will cause erosion and pinholes and incomplete seals, etc.

Damn it eberbs1 I wish I wouldve seen this but that's ok. I ended up asking my uncle who know every single measurement for every corolla from before 2009 ! Lol he lives Toyota ! 98% of his vehicle owned are toyotas ! But I might add my valve cover pics to that thread! Thanks eberbs1!!
And yeah there was still gasket sealant or something on the edges, I took that off and wiped the crevice where the gasket went super clean! So know I'm goin to pik up an engine degreaser and clean up my engine. I did end up finding some oil in the 3rd spark plug not on the tip but on the top part of it. Well I'm going to do a complete tune up this summer anyway. Pictures coming soon !!!
