91' Corolla DXPower steering problem

Ok I checked the forum for previous posts. But most refer to loose belts. I had just finished changing cap, rotor, wires and plugs. Next day I run some errands and while trying to park I notice while turning the wheel the car is hesitating and squealing. It got to the point that I saw the battery light and the oil light flicker several times. When I turn the wheel to center all is ok. It doesnt seem like a belt is loose, I think it might be the pump. Is there any way to check this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ok when I said I checked the belts i was referring to the PS belt.It was fine. Now i was checking under the hood again just to see if maybe a loose wire and to check if there was a leak in the system. Got a can of carb cleaner to check that. So I checked PS belt all was good so I just happen to check the other belts and voila found the problem the alternater was loose. One of the bolt holes on Alt. was stripped and everything was loose except the PS belt. Gonna have to get a longer bolt and put a nut on it.
