Question What parts 89 Gt-s to a 86 DX cross over

Will the drive train parts from a 1989 GT-S Red & Black big port fit in a 1986 DX

If go this route it will be from a donor car

depends what motor is on this DX you talk about... sounds like you have an AE82 which came with the 4AC, some of them actually came with a 4AGE which is very similar to the 4AGE in the 89 GTS.

Technically everything should swap over, but you will probably end up doing some kind of modifications somewhere.

no such thing as red and black top... it's either a bigport 4age or a smallport 4age and since it's an 89 GTS this is definitely a bigport 4AGE with TVIS.

have you found this page yet?
http://www.billzilla.org/4agmods.htm

just do a google search for 4AGE and a million pages including this one will show.

Yes you are correct, it is a TVIS big port.

In a previous post one of the responders replied with a series of photos. The labeling in the photos listed this as a Red & Black top engine, as it stated because the rear cam cover has red lettering and the front cam cover has black lettering. I have not found any info under this search…..GO Figure.

The GTS lost power on the freeway, owner took his exit and the car died at the top of the ramp it would not start there or after he towed it home. I have yet to pick it up/check it out.

I have a bare bones 5spd 86’ Corolla. My original plan is to swap parts if this is worth crossing over. I am hoping to build a sleeper (can you say Charlie…)

The GTS is a clean car, so now I am wondering if I should pick it up, get it running, flip it and get a different engine/parts to better accomplish my objective.

Any advice is much appreciated

engine and transmission wise they're similar, but suspension and body part wise not.

I would put all my effort and resources into restoring the 89 GT-S. A few thousand bucks can put you in the seat of a pretty fun car (GT-S + intake, exhaust, suspension, rubber, and tuning = moar fun than a free trip to Vegas)

I've seen people refer to the Bigport with the Red and Black lettering on the valve covers as the "Red and Black Top"

Whether that's correct or not, well, I guess that's up to you to decide because I don't really know?

Here's the pic explaining it:
