Another Newb question, simple alt install.

Ok well im trying to install the alt but I guess there is that circle piece thingy on the lower mount. I cant fit the alt in because that piece is blocking it. Am /I supppose to pound it out to install the alt? god I hate catching the bus.

Did you get this ALT from autozone by any chance?
Mine was too big to fit also so I had to grind a little bit of the mounting ear on the ALT (about a 1/8th inch) and it slipped right in. been on for around 9 months no problems. No you can not take out the the round metal bushing its pressed in and is a b@tch to get to anyway, if you dont have a grinder use a file that will work too.

you shouldn't have to remove it. Perhaps it's sticking out one end too much and you just need to center it within the two tabs of the alternator? Try tapping it lightly with a hammer to center it.
