idle speed adjustment screw exploded

just as the title said. i was in phoneix and i got rolled up on by a older V6 mustang and we raced. ( he got stomped btw) but after that we went to race again and i well miss shifted and was in 3rd at red line and i went to 2nd gear and the tach shot to well over 8k and i heard a pop and my idle was all funky, well further investigation i found my idle speed adjustment screw was magically gone( as was my powersteering cap) so now i ask. where did it go. i have put 3000 miles on the car since then and its still peppy. just my idle is really high, and it pulsates when coasting in neutral. do i need a new TB or just a screw

I'm amazed you beat a V6 Mustang, for starters.

The pop could've came from a backfire or something in the motor blew out when you miss-shifted. Headgasket, possible. Don't know why the idle speed screw and power steering pump cap would fly off unless they were loose in the first place and just needed that last jolt.

my AE92 could probably take a stock GTS, the heads have been ported and polished along with an intake to match with a straight through exhaust no cat. and my compression was perfect after the incident. around 190 psi across all cylinders. it also has a thinner head gasket on it aswell. (guy who owned it before had all that done with papers to show it, plus it really does pull hard for a 4afe) but anyway the powersteering cap was loose, it was broken, but for the adjustment screw that confuses me. all i got to say is the 4afe is bullet proof lol
