You could remove the headliner and manually crank the motor with a large flat head screwdriver, but you need to take off all four seat belts, the a b and maybe the c pillars, and the visors and rearview (such a b**** to put back on), plus some cover plastics where the windshield/headliner meet...
Alternatively you can pull off the fabric liner "ring" around the roof by pulling the tab thing in the back center, then you should be able to get in there with your hand and force it back to open it. I don't think this damages anything. The ring is very easy to put back in as well.
I had a problem where the roof would move back about one inch then make a loud clicking sound and refuse to move at all, I replaced my motor with a celica one recently and it works fine again. Hope this helps
