Cheap OEM alternator for '90 Corolla?

Good morning Toyota faithful!

The alternator on my parent's '90 Corolla DX sedan has decided to relieve itself of its duties this morning so I graciously (or foolishly) decided to volunteer my mechanical fortitude by fixing it this weekend. After searching the far and wide on Google for discount OEM alternators, the cheapest that I was able to come up with thus far is $170 from toyotapartszone.com.

Is this the most inexpensive price for a '90 Corolla DX alternator or has someone found something cheaper? I just got a new job and my first pay check was not a princely sum, to put it diplomatically, therefore scoring cheap OEM parts are of utmost pertinence for me. Thanks in advance everybody!

your CHEAPEST bet would to pull one from a junkyard. maybe a 35$ with your core. or just head into your local o'reiley's or Napa. thats less than $100 with your core exchange.

I agree that a junkyard replacement would probably be the best bet. The only way to do it cheaper is to check the brushes on the failed unit and if they are worn to the point where there is virtually no spring pressure left, chances are that is the problem and you can just replace the brushes for around $10.
