smaller hood latch spring

So, my freaking car won't start. Which is a problem, but not the problem I want to talk about right now. The smaller spring on the hood latch broke. Does anyone know if I can just buy the spring? I don't see the need to buy the whole latch if only the spring is bad.

If you would like to know, I have no idea what is wrong with my car. I am guessing it is distributor related, but I don't know if it is a wiring problem or the distributor. It will start in an hour or so I'm sure. It never does it for my mechanic. I'm probably going to take it somewhere else. I am about to pour gasoline all over it and set it on fire... At least the air condition works...

Parts like that spring I usually get at junkyards like pick n pull. It usually costs me $2... the amount it costs for admission...

On the starting, does it even crank? If it doesn't crank, it could be bad starter contacts (common problem for Toyotas). If it cranks but doesn't start, that could be a number of things.

It cranks forever but never fires, which leads me to believe it is distributor related. I might just spend the $15 and buy an whole new assembly because most of them in the junk yard will probably about as rusted as mine. I just need to find someone who will take the time to fix it correctly instead of just guessing what it might be and telling me that they hope it is fixed.

Edit: Also, I let it sit for a while, like 2 hours and it started right up. I want this car to be my daily driver until I save up enough money to make a decent down payment on a brand new Ford Fiesta. I love Toyota, but I would not buy a Yaris because the dashboard is terrible, and I have a Zune so I want to use the Ford Sync.

Other things to check would be the coil and igniter. Those are cheaper than a distrubutor. I'll bet you it's the coil.

Yea, the new fords look nice. Since I do all my maintenance work, new cars are never practical for me money wise. Good luck.

I would like to do more. I just need to learn. I am more of a computer guy. I can fix about anything with those.

Go to Advance and buy a rebuilt distributor. You get all new parts. Alot cheaper than buying all the pieces separate. The ignitors priced separately are exceedingly pricey. On your future car buying find a Toy model you would be happy with ( possibly Scion or another Corolla) The quality difference between Ford and Toy is huge. The media might try to tell you otherwise but don't believe it. Been there done that and will never make that mistake again on this end.

That Scion tc is a sharp little car too. Nice alternative to the old Celica
