4afte build, old school

Alright so i have been trying to build a 4AFTE on paper for some time now and have come up with a cheaper option to standalone systems. what im looking at is as followed:

a 10:1 FMU
bigger injectors (looking at the best option right now) maybe 270ish CC
T3 turbo
A FPR that can handle the extra fuel
255lph pump
a way to keep the map sensor at - pressure maybe some check valves.
im gonna start at 4 or 5 PSI and move up from there and see what i can do, also as im building a built high comp 7age for it later on so im not looking to spend alot of money. now i know that style of FMU is old and out dated but i dont care. i just want something that works. what do you all think, can anyone think of anything im missing.

Dont mean to sound like a broken record but engine management is one of the places you dont wanna cheap out on. That being said, an fmu can work for a low boost application . Jmaz has been using one on his 4afte for years. We used one on a 4afze we built sometime ago. You dont need bigger injectors , stock ones will do for a fmu.

Another cheap option is to get a 2 bar map sensor (3sgte,4agze) and get injectors approx 2x the size of your stock ones (370cc approx)and that will handle low boost just fine.

thank you evo, that helps clear things up. so bascially i can do without the FMU and run a 3sgte map sensor and 2x the injectors, i know that with boost application you still only read the 0 to 5V being 0v maximuim vacuum 2.5 being 0 psi and 5v being boost right. so naturally to keep the stock ECU i need to have injectors 2 times the stock size cause it will be getting a 2.5v reading from the map correct.

I'm not even gonna go into this...

Hacking up will work just as fine as my 4A-FTE did, nothing but troubles. Sure it was fun when it worked but it kinda sucked when you'd drive it for two months and then have a random problem arise. Your ECU also controls your ignition, so your ignition map can be wrong and then its detonation heaven. I think this is what happened to me.

Yeah that's basically how it works.

You right flashmn , but it has worked fine for many over the years with ignition retarded at the dizzy a lil.

alright im done with all the trying to get around without using a standalone kit, so i started looking and found a few megasquirt systems. im looking at the prebuilt unit, its a piggyback correct. also its a MS1 so its kinda old and outdated but way better then a FMU

Megasquirt is a standalone system NOT a piggyback.

standalone. if you consider megasquirt old and outdated then the same can be said about 4a's. get a megasquirt 1 v3 it can do all you will ever need, but by all means if you can afford it get a ms2 or 3. I got a ms1 v 2.2, not hooked up yet though.

good call on choosing to get a megasquirt. You will have a safer set up in he end and make alot more pwr than you would with a fmu
