Side drafts work great on a 4A-F, particularly webers. Bike carbs are iffy. Find a way to connect the distributor to the carbs. Also while you're at it, get some camshafts for it. You'll be amazed.

well you have to get the vacuum lines connected. One goes to the intake manifold and the other goes to the carb plate.

Someone makes "performance" camshafts for the 4AF (and 4AFE?) engine?

Hmm. Can they run with a stock ECU setup? Or does the ECU freak out with what I assume are longer durations (and a little more power)? I mentioned in another topic that my friend and I are considering doing an NA "build" of my 4AFE, mostly to the head (switch to 1992 IM, open up intake & exhaust, port & polish head, custom exhaust manifold & exhaust).

The ECU wouldnt know what the camshafts are, unless you go with really crazy ones, it should work.

92 IM wont fit a <92 head, bolt pattern, flange shape, inlet orientation is all wrong. You can get significant gains on a 4A-F with side drafts and cams... not so sure about the 4A-FE..

Ah OK, thanks. Guess I'll have to pull an entire 1992 head with the IM etc to use in my 1988?

Then you need the lower belt pulley atleast as the belt has different toothing and length and size as the pre -92 engine..Plus other things...fuel injectors, fuel rail, etc..
