finally going MS standalone unit

Alright i have decided to go with a megaquirt setup on my 4afe with the turbo build. its a prebuilt unit so now i have to ask, how hard is it to get it all hooked up and working. second is it a piggyback style unit or what, links would be awesome to show how to hook it up and what to hook it up to.

Again great move in going with megasquirt. There are many many ways to do megasquirt on a 4a, thats the beauty of megasquirt. the variations in setups are usually in the type of ignition hardware one choses when squirtin their 4a.

I am not sure which megasquirt you will get but this manual has all the info you will need.

it will all seem like alot but with enough reading it will make sense. Thats the beauty of megasquirt diy standalone, you get to learn as you go along.

Are you going to be using stock wiring harness or building one from scratch ?

On my corolla I'm using the DIYPNP (diyautotune.com)

it uses a factory connector so you can swap out your MS for the OEM ECU if you need to which is nice.

you just have to do all the wiring on the inside. I'm not sure if they have one for the 4AFE ECU though.

If you don't have the stock harness to begin with just get a 12 foot harness from diyautotune. If you have the stock harness just build a patch harness

You have to decide how much you have to spend and what you want out of the car . One thing at a time. Its recommended you megasquirt an already running engine , that way you will only only have megasquirt settings and issues to troubleshoot as opposed to tryna figure megasquirt out when you newly swapped engine may aswell have mechanical issues.

If I were you I would go about it in this order.
Megasquirt the stock 4afe , get a hang of how megasquirts works , drive the car around get comfortable doing your own tuning while collecting all your turbo parts.

When the stock engine is running fine on megasquirt then I would then do the turbo . That way that will take out all the guess work out of what's wrong if the car doesn't wanna start. With the turbo parts bolted on , all you have to do to your already running megasquirt is just edit your VE (fuel) and spark map . Minimize down time.
