USA Official Trans/ Differential fluid info!

Ok so im thinking about doing changing the transmission and differential fluid. But I've been searching everywhere, and i mostly only find info on the 98 and the 93's. and for the 93's they're confusing cause they have 2 people saying theyre together and some say its separate. and uggh -__-

So I just want Clarification on HOW to do it! So whose goin to do it!?

I Have a 1991 Toyota Corolla DLX. THe Base of all Base cars! No power windows no sunroof, no tilt steering wheel, mine didnt even come with the clock above the radio. -__-
I Have the automatic transmission. Im pretty sure i have the 3 speed.

Im Going FULL SYNTHETIC on both the fluids. Now im not even goin to bother to get a Haynes manual. Because I can find 90% of everything on there on TN ;]

So i would like ANY and ALL information you guys have. The Oil type. Oil recommendations. HOW to change the oil. the best filter. what type of filter. the tools. ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING! I Actually would like this thread to be added to sticky, just cause it'd be official information. Or at least searchable on google.

so 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992 corolla owners can look in just one place. or someone can post a link to the direct info. cause i cant find any -__- thanks TN.

The differential and tranny are totally separate on the 3spd auto. The diff has a fill plug on side, drain plug at bottom. refill capacity approx 1.5 qt thru fill plug on side of differential. Fluid level should be up to threads on fill plug opening. The tranny has a hex shaped drain plug. Drain the tranny via plug. Purchase a new gasket and remove the bolts surrounding pan. Drop pan (hold corner downward at corner to drain it). Remove / replace magnets in pan and clean off debris and clean inside of pan with lint free rag. Clean off old gasket from pan flange and mating surface on tranny.Put some tacky gasket adhesive on pan to hold gasket in place . Reinstall pan. Do not overtighten bolts. Use 1/4 ratchet to help avoid over-tightening it. Refill approx 2.4 qts. thru tranny dipstick.Check fluid level with engine cold/warm to verify level is correct. Original oil type is Dexron II for both tranny and diff. Not sure of a comparable synthetic.

does this mean that the 5spd manual trans and differential are both connected??

im thinking about doing a transmission and differential flush... maybe this might help my transmission whine, or differential whine that i get every once in a while... gonna check the trans fluid tomorrow if its black or not... hopefuly they are connected together, would make life much easier...

Yup, in the manuals they're connected. I think it's 2.5 qts? of 75w90 gear oil. I (and most people on this board) recommend getting some Redline MT-90.

good luck checking it... there is no dipstick on the manuals.
