4af master clutch location? and is the header shield realy nessesary?

i have some oil dripping right underneith the clutch pedal, wondering how hard to replace it would be and where is the cylinder is located?.. so far the clutch pedal works fine still but i think it should be replaced cause i wouldnt wanna be stuck in the middle of a intersection..

also are we able to drive without the header shield? i washed the engine bay yesterday to find the oil leaks, but now the damn headers started smoking cause there was probably gunk on it..

clutch pedal fluid is not oil... it's fluid from either you clutch master cylinder or the brake master cylinder. Check both of them to see if you're loosing fluid from the reservoirs.

the heat shield isn't that big of a deal to get rid of, but it does serve a purpose. on the 4AF since the distributor and everything isn't there, you can probably ditch it, but why bother if it works fine...

the brake fluid resevoir looks fine(the one in the corner of engine bay)

i actualy ment brake or clutch fluid not oil lol... they look and feel the same

i dont know why but i can never find the resevoirs for the clutch cylinders in this car and my past car.. it must be hidden... i sure hope its not brake fluid, the leak is right underneith the clutch..

i think ill have a profession do this probably, i am mechanicaly inclined, have a bunch of tools and do work my self, but i am geussing the thing that needs fix is underneith the dash which will be a pain in the ass to fix if you have to go under there..

The clutch master cylinder AND reservoir should be up against the firewall right behind your driver side top shock mount/ tower.

Not to say you're fat or anything. But it's pretty roomy to work. Just take the lower kickpanel under the steering wheel out and VOILA.

im starting to think i should hold off this fix until a week or two, just to be sure the cars engine is running good and will last me for a good while... i've only had it for 2 days and i have no idea if it will last me, it seems to have a long cold start, but when warmed up it will start up no problem, also the idle is kind of rough, so far no blue smoke coming from the exhaust though..

the leak seems to only be leaking a few drops each drive, but if you look at the previous leaks/drips there seems to be about 10-15 other drips from previous past, i have no idea if the clutch feels differnt because i've only had it for 2 days but so far it seems almost effort less to push the clutch in..

so i geuss i will take a gamble, just to see if the engine in running good for a week befor fixing the clutch cylinder, well worth the gamble.. i got this thing for $400 because of the bad body condition and i dont know if i would wanna put money into it.. if the engine drives good and lasts me a while yeah ill do it.. i probably have the worst looking corolla on this forum hahaha.. i will keep a bottle of brake fluid in the trunk and make sure the clutch resevoir is always full..
