replacing valve covor gasket, might as well clean valve springs or adjust but how?

so i picked up a valve covor gasket, cause its still leaking even though i tightened it up to like 20 ft pounds(geuss)...

i was thinking since i have the valve covor off, it would expose the valve springs and stuff so i might as well clean it up right?

what is safe to use? throttle body cleaner? brake cleaner? electrical cleaner? i have all these laying around..

also can/should i adjust the valves since i am in there??

my first time replacing a valve covor gasket so help me out

I would just take the valve cover off and have a look, odds are you wont need to clean anything.

I dont know why you'd want to clean something that bathed in oil

I pulled off mine (was leaking externally as well as into the spark tubes) and it was spotless no sludge or any deposits. Both the cover and the top of the head and valves were beautiful. ar had 190,000 on it then, now has 201,000 i'm sure you will find something similar in yours. I just use regular oil too. These motors are very well designed i think you'll be fine. plus, using break clean will take away all lubrication and cause damage when the motor is started (oil creates a seal on metals keeping them from touching each other) you do not want to remove that. Just clean the gasket mating surfaces and use a little dab or RTV black around the corners of the head.

i thought it would of been alot more dirtier lol.. i took it off and yup it looks pretty damn mint even though i got 250k kms... so pissed that they gave me the damn wrong valve covor gasket though... should of read the box befor taking it off.. my original valve covor gasket looked pretty good shape so i just cleaned it up and put it back... maybe it might stop leaking, re-tightend the valve at 7 ft lbs...
