cold start, car dies right after unless i hold down the gas

i have been searching for like an hour and cant find anyone with the same problem.

on a cold start it should usualy idle at around 2000-3000 rpms and then drop down when warm, but mine doesnt

for me it seems like it just starts up and runs at 1000rpms, then bogs and dies, unless i give it gas.. i cant realy say what RPMS mine is running at because i have no tachometer..

i have checked the AAP vacuum line and i can't smell any gas so it should be working?

what is the called that is suposed to raise the idle when cold starting? maybe it needs a cleaning?

if you look at this post, there is a cold start injecter that can be cleaned... this is for the 4afe engine though... i have the 4af motor though... would the 4af motor still have the cold start injecter? and where is this thing located? by reading this guys post, it seems like it will solve my problem
cold start injector

Hello,
The 4AF does not have a Cold start injector.
Try taking off the top of the air cleaner and look at the choke plate at the top and see if it moves and try moving it to see if it makes any change.
Also look to see if the carb is dirty, if its brown its dirty, buy some carb cleaner and spray it down the carb with the car running.
