does anyone else get the smell exhaust fumes when cold starting inside the car?

it seems like every morning when i start up the car, for the first 2 minutes of driving the smell of burnt exhause fumes or something enters the cabin... after a few minutes of driving its gone though... is this normal in this car? this kind of thing makes me want to get rid of it.. if its going to cause health issues its not worth it..

im pretty sure its not the manifold leak, i have checked all bolts, some were lose and missing so i have retightened them and replaced... i have also checked the downpipe and catalytic converter and all seem tight..

i noticed sometimes on Cold start ups there seems to be smoke Somtimes, maybe it could be that.. i think its coming from the carburator, maybe its when it ignites the fuel or something... not to sure but why would it smoke on a cold start and not while driving and also not while warm start.. after the cold start the smoke goes away, i havnt seen the smoke since then but when i first got the car it would do it.. the smoke is only a little bit of smoke, not a huge cloud but noticable

Hey,
I have the same motor and the same issue. on cold start for a few min i can smell exaust fumes.
As far as I can tell its caused by a ripped flex pipe (the steel braided pipe just after the manifold).
I just set the climate control to reciurculate air when the car is cold and that seems to make the smell much less noticeable.

im pretty sure my flex pipe is fine... when i looked at my flex pipe it did look like the previous owner replaced it, it doenst look as old as the manifold and cat converter.. i have my climate control set to reciuculate also... hmm maybe ill take another look at the flex pipe... i have been thinking maybe there is a way to completely block the hole that lets the fumes come into the cabin.. i had the interior taken apart last night and i tested the reciuculate buttons and it looked like the thing doesnt close completely... its just under the glove box...

Its on my list of things to do. I am 99% sure thats what is causing the smell because the flex pipe is ripped to shit.
