Building a High MPG Fuel Efficient AE92

So I am new and got my first 1990 Toyota Corolla SR5 Coupe with the 4-speed auto.
I would like to build a highly efficient engine to get the best MPG out of my 90 AE92.
Which motor can I swap in easily or what can i do with the existing motor.
I have tons of aero mods planned but would like some of the Toyota gurus to help me out on the mechanics of these cars! I have been with Mazda rotaries for a long time and this is actually my first Toyota.
Thanks Everyone and any tips and pointers welcome! I will keep you guys posted on my project.
Here is the said car I am building up.

I am also looking for GTS Side Skirts & did they ever come with front lips? I found a few nice aftermarket bumpers in Japan but it Would cost me $1500+ to get one here.

If your car has the 4afe in it Toyota designed it with fuel efficiency in mind from it's inception. You have the 4 spd overdrive auto which is an improvement over the usual 3 spd auto so you have things covered on that end.

Besides the 5 speed helping save a little more gas with proper shifting, it's more driving style with the 4A-FE. If you rev it a lot and push it hard, you won't get as good mileage as you would if you take it easy. I know that's kind of a simplistic thing to say, but it holds true.

I guess it's up to the aero and under body mods to do more of the magic!
I changed my driving style considerably now and just touched under Full on the meter and am at 67 miles so far.
I am waiting for this thing called a MPGuino that helps you see how much mpg you are getting.
here is a shot from yesterday

You might want to go over to a site like "geometroforum.com" where they're a lot more about crazy fuel economy and much more knowledgeable about it. I have a friend who's building his '94 metro for crazy gas mileage:

one thing you might consider is swapping in a JDM 6 speed from a AE111. stock it has a rather high final drive ratio, so it probably would actually be worse on the highway. but if you swap out the stock 4.5 with your auto's stock 3.7 or whatever it as it would be crazy low geared in 6th :-)

hrm... you know what, i was saving into doing a 2zzfe swap, you might be able to get in the 1zzfe instead, i mean its a not a easy swap, but the MPG on the 1zz is amazing, i remember that from my 01 S... but i wanted a newer engine, with power and gas saving ability so i was looking into the 2zz... if i dont see my car, and keep it, im doing that swap for sure...

maximum fuel econ

I have an 89 wagon, stick, carb, live in L.A., CA. Little over a month ago weeks ago, I put a good rebuilt carburetor in at 200,000 miles on a stock motor with a K&N and rebuilt head (10K miles ago). My fuel economy went from 28-30mpg (@ 70 mpg primarily on freeway commuting ) to 35 mpg in 3 successive tank fills. Get agressive in stopped traffic and mileage goes down.

In a 4th tank I got 36 mpg. Admittedly, I am pretty stunned.

If you find a way to get better economy, I want to know.

WW

Do some of the basics too like performance spark plugs, synthetic oil, good quality air filter, and maybe even tires made for fuel efficiency. Even doing a lot of little things can add up and make a difference. its pretty cheap too.
