what is your opinion?
Short story. Son is driving my corolla, says he's at a stoplight waiting for the light to change when it quit running. No signs of impending doom . Just quits. Won't start. The compression is at 90, 90, 60, and 120 psi respectively. Won't even fire with ether shots in the intake.? We changed the timing belt to make sure there was no issues with valve timing due to belt jump etc. Just removed the head to check the gasket. It separated very easily. There does not appear to have any obvious cracks, tears, or burnt throu areas There is no oil in coolant or vice versa. what are the odds of the gasket being bad without obvious signs. also how can I check the rings with the head off.
Thanks
Replaced ECU ,plugs,wires, timing belt,
has lots of spark, fuel pressure is ok, checked EFI by the book all appears good.
I really don't understand why it didn't make a burb when giving it starting fluid while cranking.
did the Hard Starting checks listed on page EM 4 in the shop manual the last step is the compression check. which has led us to the head gasket or the rings etc.
