Loud bang when go over sidewalk or big bump.

it happened 2 times so far, a very loud bang, almost a metal to metal hit sound, hard to explain but it happens only when i hit a large sharp bump.. i was just coming out of a parking lot and went over a curb and made a loud bang noise... its coming from the rear passenger side, it doesnt make sense cause all i did was drive over a sidewalk which is not that high and it makes a loud ass bang, so loud that people 30-40 feet away heard it at starting looking at me lol..

what could it be? this sidewalk that was just built recently is poorly designed so whenever i exit this plaza i usualy go over the sidewalk since you need to do a sharp right to get out, not only in this car but in my is300 it doesnt make a loud as a bang when i go over same curb.. it almost sounds like the top shock mount is not bolted in or something

My daughter had a Plymouth Horizon that had the same symptoms only on the LR. She drove it like that for a few weeks before informing me about it.
First thing I did was looked at the strut mount and I discovered that where it bolts onto the body in the trunk, it had totally rusted away. The strut was just flopping around freely.

After I scolded her a bit for not telling me sooner, she told me that it also was handling strangely when going into RH corners. NO DOUBT! Ended up scrapping it as it was too costly to fix for what it was worth.

Anyway, I'd check the mounts first.

I would check and see if the foam bump stop on the strut is still intact.
My front strut bump stops fell apart and i started to get loud bangs when i would bottom out the strut.
You may need to take the wheel off to check if its there, you also may need to pull back the rubber boot that covers the strut to check it, its a yellowish foam thingy that sits at the top of the shock.

My friends car did this when the top cap on the servicable style struts broke. So basically the strut cartridge was loose inside the strut casing and when going over a bump it would bang. Not saying that's what your's is (esp. if you don't have the serviceable style struts) but it's an easy check.

my whole car does this as well... but then again, i dont have the rubber coverings for the springs or the foam shock yellow thingy in the strut as well, since i didnt have them and didnt have the money to purchase them... but im guessing that is the problem then..
